Let’s rest!

Tis the season for an off-season break!

Many PROthirteen athletes and coaches are currently taking a few weeks off the bike before transitioning to hard-core base training.

But that doesn’t mean gloom and doom! In fact if you plan, your off season can be an exciting part of your seasonal periodization.

Rest is crucial. It is only through rest that we recover, adapt and reset. There are no lack of studies that show this, yet so many athletes really struggle with taking time away from their main sport.

At PROthirteen, we realize this—and we’re here to help!

For nutritionist and Colorado resident Jen Sommer-Dirks, it’s all about SKIMO! Skimo is short for ski mountaineering. Today, the modern sport of Skimo is all about moving fast and light. Skimo is really unique though because it combines racing downhill with racing uphill and ascending under your own power.

Nutritionist Dana Eshelman, also a resident of Colorado, enjoys exploring new scenery in the off-season. From tops of the Rocky Mountains to sheer canyon depths, Colorado national parks, scenic byways, forests, lakes offer an incredible respite from seasonal training.
